30 January 2021 – 7 March 2021
The series of small-scale exhibitions entitled From the Studio of… presents cross-section views of recent production by artists whose works are included in the Moderna galerija’s permanent exhibition 20th Century. Continuities and Ruptures. This year it opens with a look at Bojan Gorenec’s most recent work. Presented with his The Lay Topos of Painting Trinity: Projection, the Concept of House, Paining (1988; mixed media on canvas) at the permanent exhibition, the artist is now showing his latest series of paintings revolving around both the complexity and the contradictions in the relation of painting (or art in general) to its time and space in terms of history and the medium itself.
The exhibition is a result of close collaboration between the artist and curator Martina Vovk.
Bojan Gorenec (1956)
In 1979 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana under prof. Marjan Pogačnik and prof. Ježe Brumen, with a degree in printmaking. While at first alternating between the fields of printmaking and painting, he has dedicated himself exclusively to painting since 1985. In 1982, he received the Golden Bird Award for young artists, and in 1990, the Prešeren Foundation Award. So far, he has had 38 solo exhibitions and has participated in over 50 group exhibitions at home and abroad.
In addition to his artistic work, he has translated a number of texts about art from English and French (Marcelin Pleynet, De Pictura; Kazimir Malevich, God is not Cast Down: Art, Church, Factory) for the ŠKUC Gallery and M’ARS magazine. He is also the author of many texts published in M’ARS magazine and other publications and catalogues. Since 1996, he has worked as a professor of painting for the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana, where he also served as Dean between 2007 and 2013.
From the Studio of… Bojan Gorenec opens on 30 January 2021 at the Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana.
